Finding Internships
by Brandon
By far the thing I hear most from students regarding internships is that they simply can’t find them.

As somebody who has tried to find internships, both successfully and unsuccessfully, I know where they’re coming from. The process can be confusing, and it’s hard to get information on how to exactly go about it. Here are some tips:Visit Career Services
It is the job of the staff at the career services department of your respective college or university to help students find internships. They are experts at that, and they have relationships with employers in the area. Not only can they point you in the right direction to look for internships, they can also help you polish up your resume, or practice for interviews. Everybody should visit their career services department at least once when looking for internships.
Talk to a professor
Your professors don’t just teach; they also collaborate with and know many professionals and employers in their field. I’ve talked to several faculty who know of internship opportunities that aren’t advertised anywhere. Sometimes employers count on professors to send them their best students. Besides, it’s always a good idea to get to know your professors. So go visit them during their office hours, and see what they have to say.
NEOintern.net
I would be remiss if I didn’t mention my company’s website, NEOintern.net. NEOintern is a completely free service that connects Northeast Ohio employers with students. There are hundreds of opportunities available at all times, and there are thousands of registered employers that can review your resume, qualifications, etc. There are opportunities for virtually every major in many different industries. It would have made my life a lot easier if I was aware of this great service when I was searching for an internship. Do yourself a favor, and go register now.
