Best Cities for Recent College Graduates – Cleveland is #5
by Halley
A study came out last week from the Fordham Foundation in Columbus (click here to read the full report ), and it found that more college students are thinking about leaving Ohio after graduation. The main motivation? Follow the jobs.
Follow up:
I understand that. I didn’t have the luxury of moving home with mom and dad until I found a job, so not working was out of the question after I graduated. What I don’t understand is why students think it would be easier to find a job outside of Ohio.
In my experience, the easiest way to find a job is through your network. And the easiest place to build a network is in your backyard. And, going to school in Northeast Ohio, you have a pretty friendly backyard for young professionals. (Just look at the second annual “Top 10 Best Cities for Recent College Graduates” study by Apartments.com and CBcampus.com for proof. Cleveland is #5 on the list.)
So – get out there and meet employers. Even in today’s economy, employers are looking for good talent. Just this morning I met an employer who hired a recent Kent State University graduate for a full-time job, even though the student came in to interview for an internship. The employer met someone who was so smart that they couldn’t pass up the opportunity for good talent acquisition. This wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t go out and meet people. Start building your network today.
