One last thought – Andy Shepard, serial entrepreneur and one of the panelists, said, “If you want to change the world, then come work with us.” That is what it is about – why it is worth interning and figuring out what you want to do with your career. Figure out how you want to change the world and go do it. Okay, I know that is corny, but I mean it. If you’re going to spend at least 40 hours every week doing something, it may as well have an impact, right?
And you might find that working at a high-tech, entrepreneurial is just the kind of impact you want to make. Or it might be a big corporation. Or a non-profit. It’s hard to figure out until you actually know what the differences are, and that is something that is very difficult to learn from a book.
